Architectural and Historic Resources Index Volume 1
Title
Architectural and Historic Resources Index Volume 1
Description
The "Architectural and Historic Resources Inventory" of the City of Stamford below "Bull's Head", was funded jointly by the National Park Service through a grant from the Conn. Historical Commission, and the Stamford Community Development Program.
The survey encompassed that portion of Stamford which lies below "Bull's Head', at the junction of Long Ridge and High Ridge Road. Bull's Head marked the site of a cluster of slaughter houses, and forms the traditional boundary between the City and the rural districts which surround it.
Survey information was completed for all buildings constructed prior to 1930 which have any architectural or historic significance. An attempt was made to be as inclusive as possible, especially in regard to 18th and 19th century structures. Structures were frequently included because of their role in the streetscape rather than for any unique character of their own.
The survey is largely of residential dwellings, it also includes commercial and industrial structures, parks, cemeteries, bridges, public artwork, and street hardware.
