George Blickensderfer brought many innovations to the typewriter industry, from 1890 until 1920. As the world's leader in portable typing, he also re-invented the keyboard to nearly double the speed compared to a QWERTY keyboard. But it was Blickensderfer's invention of the world's first electric typewriter started the transformation in typing to an easier, higher quality way of typing.

George Blickensderfer's design genius was evident in his many awards and industry firsts, which complemented the beauty, simplicity and artistry of his machines. He leaves behind a legacy of entrepreneurial innovation and leadership which helped build Stamford while advancing typing around the world.
