From text on back of photo: Now the Location of the Burley Building Main and Atlantic Street Long a favorite of Stamford Residents, the annual visit of "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and Congress of Rough Rider of the World" to this city was eagerly anticipated each year. Here the parade is passing through Atlantic Square on May 25, 1898, enroute to the circus grounds. "Buffalo Bill", also known as Colonel William F. Cody was born on February 26, 1846, and after a spectacular career in the far was a buffalo hunter, Indian fighter and army scout, organized his famous show in 1883. He toured the entire country and all of Europe including making an appearance at Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1887. The trope was disbanded several years before his death on January 10, 1917. His grave is on Lookout Mountain near Denver. This is the 34th in a continuing series of old-tome Stamford photographs.
