Title

Cove Mills Plant

Description

The historic Cove Mills Plant as it appeared in 1889. Built originally in 1792 by William Fitch and John W. Holly these mills ground and bolted flour for many years. Upon the death of Mr. Holly, John Sanford and Henry Sanford acquired the plant and in 1844 organized the Stamford manufacturing company to grind dye wood, spices and to manufacture licorice extract. The plant was destroyed by fire February 19, 1919. This is the thirteenth in a weekly series of historic Stamford photographs.
