250th Anniversary Arch
Title
250th Anniversary Arch
Description
This large, wooden arch was erected over Atlantic Street at the corner of Bank Street in 1892 when the Town of Stamford celebrated the 250th Anniversary of its founding. Three U.S. Navy ships were anchored in the harbor for the occasion and a mammoth parade was held that included sailors from the battleships, the National Guard, horse-drawn fire engines from three states, bicycle riders and floats. In all, about 5,000 persons marched in the parade and 30,000 watched from the sidelines.
