The Stamford Auto Fire Dept
Description
The year is 1916 and the first showing of the new motorized equipment of the Stamford Fire Department. Depicted seond from right in front of the old Luther Street firehouse is Chief Harry W. Parker in his Pope-Hartford runabout. Driver William Mullens is at the wheel and electrician Joseph Plant is in the back seat. The pumper was a product of the famous locomobile works in Bridgeport. The two pieces of fire apparatus at the left were made by American LaFrance. The famous horse that hauled the equipment of the Stamford Fire Department were retired as gradually the department was fully mechanized. This is the fifth in a series of Old-Time Stamford photographs.
