A northwest view of Davenport Park, showing West Park Place and River Street in background. Long Called “west Park”, this plot of ground in the center of Stamford was renamed “Christopher Columbus Park” in October, 1958 by unanimous vote of the city’s Board of Representatives. A handsome statue of the pioneer navigator has since been erected on the site. The photo is showing old time Civil War cannon and cannon balls. Year about 1910. This cannon was taken and used in World War II 1942 with the promise that it would be replaced by one of World War II cannons. This is the 45th in a weekly series of Old-Time Stamford photographs.
